Interface meeting of ICAR with State Agriculture and Allied Department

One day interface meeting was organized by ICAR RC NEH, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar with state Agriculture and Allied Department, Government of Arunachal Pradesh on 14th of September, 2018 at Conference Hall, Department of Agriculture. The programme was chaired by Dr. N. Prakash, Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region. The dignitaries from Government of Arunachal Pradesh were Shri Kesang Tsering, Director Marketing, Shri Dusu Shra, IFS, Director SFRI, Dr. S. L. Dhrikpa, Director i/c, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandary, Shri Tage Tathry, Joint Director Horticulture, Shri T. Game, Joint Director Marketing and various Deputy Directors of Agriculture and Allied departments. Head of Departments from ICAR RC NEH, Umiam also participated in the programme. A brief introduction was given by Dr. N. Prakash about general activities of ICAR RC NEH region which was followed by a presentation from Dr. H. Kalita, Joint Director, ICAR AP Centre, Basar on farmer’s friendly technologies developed by ICAR AP Centre, Basar and ICAR, Umiam, Meghalaya. After the technical presentation, there was an interaction and discussion session between scientist and dignitaries of state department, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. During the discussion, Director of Agriculture suggested for awareness training on registration of indigenous crop germplasm and Director of Horticulture emphasized on citrus decline mitigation measures to be taken. Further, Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, requested for supply of fertilized eggs and DOC of improved poultry variety and Deputy Director of Fisheries requested for study on breeding biolologies of indigenous fish for its propagation and conservation. The discussion also included remarks by Director SFRI, on Jhum improvement. With regards to various remarks, ICAR suggested formation of Arunachal Pradesh variety release committee. Regarding indigenous crop germplasm registration, training will be given by ICAR to the state departments. To control Citrus Decline in Arunachal Pradesh, standard packages of practices developed by ICAR, Basar need to be implemented by farmers. The session also stressed importance on agendas like Jhum improvement, soil health card, community conservation of indigenous fish, tree species etc, for sustainable agriculture and doubling farmer’s income. The interface meet was applauded by the state departments for this convergence between ICAR and State Agriculture and Allied Departments of Arunachal Pradesh. They further requested ICAR, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar to conduct such programme annually for the development of farming community and state as a whole.
